Deposit Return Scheme: Here's What You Need to Know

In February 2024, the Irish Government introduced the Deposit Return Scheme to encourage recycling and reduce waste. This initiative applies to beverages sold in plastic, aluminum, or steel cans.

How It Works:

1. Deposit Fee: When you buy a drink, you'll pay a small deposit in addition to the drink's price:
   • 15c for containers sized between 150ml and 500ml.
   • 25c for containers sized over 500ml up to 3 liters.
2. Reclaim Your Deposit: To get your deposit back, simply return the empty, undamaged container to a participating retailer.

Look for the Logo: Containers eligible for this scheme will display the Re-turn logo.

Where to Return Containers: Use the map on www.re-turn.ie to find participating retail outlets near you.
